The Challenge
A precision parts manufacturer serving the space industry approached us with complex 3D-printed components made from Durafoam that needed to be entirely free of machining oil before moving to final processing. These components were coated in Hangsterfers S787, a heavy-duty lubricant commonly used in high-performance machining.
Given the tight tolerances and material specifications involved, removing every last trace of oil was essential. Not just for compliance, but to ensure mechanical integrity in extreme, mission-critical environments.
The manufacturer needed our team to go beyond chemistry recommendations and engineer a custom cleaning process that removed the oil completely while preserving the integrity of the alloy and maintaining process compatibility with downstream manufacturing steps.
The Solution
Brulin's team of process specialists designed a custom precision cleaning protocol centered around AquaVantage® 815 GD, an aqueous chemistry for immersion and ultrasonic cleaning, trusted and approved across many high-stakes industries. The cleaning sequence needed to accurately balance thermal, chemical, and time parameters to achieve optimal results.

We selected AquaVantage® 815 GD due to its proven compatibility with space and aerospace materials and its history of success in removing difficult soils like S787 lubricant.
Dual-Stage Wash

Our team developed a dual-wash process compatible with their equipment, each stage optimized for soil breakdown while safeguarding material properties.
Controlled Dual Deionized Rinse Process
To finalize their parts cleaning process, the customer applied a two-stage DI rinse water protocol, ensuring all chemical residues were fully eliminated before final handling.
